Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum
1800 N. Congress Avenue

Brimming with pride, this museum dedicated to the spirit of Texas opened its doors in April of 2001. The museum includes 3 stories of exhibits focusing on 3 categories: Texas Land, Texas History and Texas Identity and Opportunity. Each exhibit is designed to highlight a different chapter in the story of Texas. Also housed in the museum are two theatres: the Imax Theatre and the one of a kind multi-media-capable Texas Spirit Theatre. The museum is open from 9AM 6 PM, admission is $5 for adults and free for those 18 and under.
Three floors of exhibits -- three themes as big as Texas history: Land, Identity and Opportunity. The exhibits at The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum will surround you with the sights, sounds and (sometimes) smells of Texas history. Each floor of exhibits highlights important chapters in The Story of Texas through objects, media programs, and recreated environments.
Our contribution to the creation of this life-sized experiential exhibition, was the construction of the Texas Dog Trot, a unique example of a pioneer log house of the period. For this project, we lived in Austin for a period of about 6 weeks.
Here's a photo of the authentic Texas Dog Trot we built inside the museum:
